Australian Trip Maps

This is an album containing my Australian adventure trip maps in reverse chronological order. I will add to it as time goes along. They may be useful for someone contemplating similar routes/destinations. All my routes are generated using Wikicamps Australia. Very good information and functionality. I do back roads where I can of course. Some require 4WD and water wading capability (the Sprinter can wade to 70cm water depth).

I visit a lot of state and national parks. Caravan parks are used sparingly. Dig a hole free camps are great. A lot of hiking and climbing with overnight treks thrown in.

I am most willing to field questions regarding route details and camping locations.

The first three were in my Mercedes Vito (Vittoria) and the later ones were in the Mercedes Sprinter (La Bestia)

Mundatharrda 2026

A month long combination of WA wheatbelt granite outcrop visits, Mundatharrda (Kennedy Range) gorges and five Gascoyne/Pilbara mountain ascents.

Noni Northish 2026 - short familiarisation trip with daughter Leonie through the northern wheatbelt of WA (first time two up in La Bestia and function test of new rear racks).

WA North West Wheatbelt 2026 

The Big Loop 2025 - around the entire mainland through every state and territory except Tasmania. 21500km over 5 months of the roughest roads in Australia including

South west wandering 2024 - included a hike on the Stirling Ridge Trail and a few hidden gems along the way.

Pilbara Loop 2023 - covering many of the back roads I had missed from previous routes. Included Kennedy Range NP, Millstream Chichester NP, swimming with whale sharks at Ningaloo, De Grey River crossing, Doolena Gorge, Carawine Gorge, Skull Springs road, and Wiluna / Canning Stock route southern end.

Victoria and South Australia 2022 - 2023 - Included Dargo High Plains road to Mt Hotham, southern Flinders Ranges, and Eyre Peninsular.

Northish Tanami WA/NT 2022 - included Millstream Chichester NP, Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Purnululu c/w 3day trek into Piccaninny Gorge, Wolfe Creek Crater, Tanami Road, Standley Chasm, Mt Sonder ascent, Mereenie Loop, Watarrka c/w overnight trek along Giles Track, Uluru, Kata Tjuta, and Great Central Road.

Esperance Great Southern 2022 - included Parmango road, Balladonia Track, Mount Ragged, Cape Le Grand NP c/w trek along the Coastal Trail, beach drive to Wylie Bay, Stokes NP, Fitzgerald River NP, and Stirling Range NP (lots of climbing).

Karijini - Mundatharrda 2020 - final bush bashing trip for Vittoria. Karijini NP (joined my daughter Emma to climb WA highest point Mt Meharry), Shark Bay, Monkey Mia, and Mundatharrda Kennedy Range NP.

Karijini Ningaloo 2017 - my first bush bashing with Vittoria including crossing the Tropic of Capricorn for the first time by road. Karijini NP, Cape Range NP, and snorkelling on Ningaloo Reef. Lots of hiking and gorge clambering/swimming.
