Mundatharrda 2026 Day 12

 Day 12 - 19/7/26

Beautiful sunrise today. Got up early to do a solo off piste ascent of the ‘spit’ just above the campground. The old cairn at the end had been dismantled.

Back down and we set off for honeycomb gorge along the base of the escarpment. New signs declaring cultural significance and no photos to be taken nor the wall touched.

Unfortunately there was no story presented which is essential to ‘bring visitors along for the journey’.

Back to camp for lunch before heading up Temple Gorge. Michelle and Paul were doing well in challenging heat and rocky terrain.

Headed up the closest gorge to camp later in the afternoon to finish off the full set. There’s quite a bit of greenery in this one as it is a long one with many tributaries (all dry at the moment). It must get quite a bit of water flow.

There is a temple shaped rock face at the split into two branches. We headed up the longer and more challenging one first. There was a bit of water in the waterfall base pool at the end.

Back down to the other branch and we came across the resident white billy goat. Michelle proceeded to bleat at him and he dutifully bleated back in return. Hilarious!

No water in the end pool at this one. Back to camp for celebratory drinks and partake in a camp gathering/bbq put on by the rangers and camp hosts. I learned that the 4WD loop trail was open so I decided to give it a crack tomorrow on the way ‘out’.
