Hiking Gear

Hi all.

Given that I do a bit of hiking albeit short haul peeps may have an interest in my gear.

So, I have four backpacks!

Biking/short up and back stuff.

40L for day hikes (can stretch to overnight)

55L for overnight/ a few days

70L for serious treks.

The 40L is the most used and abused. My old swissgear one got a bit tatty after ten years…

Anyone who is familiar with hiking in the remote areas of Australia knows that water is the primary issue. Most places west of the great dividing range are lacking in surface water therefore it’s ‘bring your own’. All my packs take a 2L bladder. I also carry a 600ml bottle as a back up for longer treks.

Here’s the equipment that I usually carry on my day hikes:

Telstra mobile phone (widest coverage network)

PLB

Sat phone

Signalling mirror

Thermal blanket

Lighter
